My approach to the college process is straightforward. I customize my work with each student based on their interests, goals, and abilities. I have worked over three decades in education as an English teacher, an admission professional at three different institutions, and a school-based college counselor. I have learned that students perform best when they work one-on-one with a supportive educator who guides them with honesty and kindness.
My journey through college was not traditional. Out of high school, I enrolled in a four-year college that ended up being a less-than-perfect fit. So I left and attended a two-year college while I applied to USC as a transfer student. Two years later I graduated from USC and started my career as an English teacher. While teaching, I earned my Master’s degree in Composition Studies at Cal State Los Angeles, where I developed my individualized approach to writing instruction.
My greatest joy as a teacher came from helping timid young writers become confident and expressive. I use this experience every day in my work as a college counselor, and I am an expert at helping students develop college essays that are lively and authentic.
During my time as an admission professional, I learned the ins and outs of the admission process and what makes a strong application with the best chance for success. There are no secrets, but I know the strategies that allow a student to present their best application, and I take great pride in that work. I spent seven years as an admission rep at USC, my Alma Mater, where I worked with an exceptional group of people and had the pleasure of mentoring dozens of young staff. Most important, I was able to help hundreds of first-year and transfer applicants navigate the process, the most fulfilling part of my job.
I treat all of my students and their families with kindness, professionalism, and respect. I happily answer any and all questions as I know the process can sometimes feel confusing and overwhelming. With a steady approach, hard work, and the right support, any student can succeed in the college process and learn a lot about themselves at the same time.
I look forward to meeting with you. If you have questions, please email me at lapscollege@gmail.com
